Our family business started in Richfield, MN in 1941. Edward Connelly purchased an existing Culligan franchise with 300 accounts. Water conditioning was different in those days, consisting of carrying 200 lb. portable exchange tanks into the basements of customers homes. Over the next 21 years Ed grew the business to over 5,000 accounts before selling it back to the original owner in 1970.

In 1961 Ed purchased the dealership in Sioux Falls, SD from the Coffey family. A few years later his son Paul entered the business to manage the business and do sales. Paul purchased the business from his father Ed in 1976 and continued to grow the business.

In 1990, Culligan Water Conditioning of Sioux Falls moved to their current location at 1510 W. 51st Street to be able to better serve their customers.

On January 1, 2006, after 40+ years as a Culligan dealer, Paul Connelly retired and passed ownership to his son, Alex, who has worked in the business in a variety of roles since 1994. Alex is a third-generation “Culligan Man.” He graduated from the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN) with a B.A. in Communications, and is a licensed water conditioning contractor in the state of South Dakota.
